Juan Alejandro Barreto Cipriani was born on August 7, 1959. He is a Venezuelan politician and sociologist. He is best known for serving as the mayor of Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela, from 2004 to 2008. Juan Barreto is a member of the REDES political party.

Juan Barreto's Political Journey
Starting in Congress
Juan Barreto began his political career in 1998. He was elected to the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies. This was an important step in his public service.
In July 2000, Barreto was elected to the new Venezuelan National Assembly. This assembly took the place of the Chamber of Deputies. He received many votes, showing strong support from the people. He represented the Venezuelan Capital District. He left this role in October 2004 when he became mayor of Caracas.
Serving as Mayor of Caracas
Juan Barreto became the mayor of Caracas in October 2004. He served in this important position until December 2008. As mayor, he was responsible for leading the city's government.
Other Important Roles
Juan Barreto has studied a lot. He has degrees in journalism and social sciences. He used his skills in communication. He was the director of a newspaper called "Correo del Presidente." He also led the government's information office, OCI. This office is now known as the Ministry of Communication and Information. He also directed Venpres, a news agency. Today, it is called the Agencia Bolivariana de Noticias.
Besides his political work, Barreto is also a professor. He teaches at the Central University of Venezuela. In 2008, he was considered for the World Mayor award. This award recognizes mayors from around the world.
