Political Career of Juan Barreto
Early Political Steps
Juan Barreto began his political journey in 1998. He was elected to the Venezuelan Chamber of Deputies. This was an important part of the country's government.
Serving in the National Assembly
On July 30, 2000, Barreto was elected to the new National Assembly. This group took the place of the Chamber of Deputies. He received many votes, showing strong support from the people. He represented the Capital District of Venezuela. He left this role in October 2004. This was because he was elected as the mayor of Caracas.
Time as Mayor of Caracas
As mayor of Caracas, Juan Barreto faced some challenges. He had disagreements with other mayors in the city. For example, in 2006, he spoke out against mayors Leopoldo López and Henrique Capriles.

Education and Media Work
Juan Barreto has degrees in journalism and social sciences. This means he studied how to report news and how societies work. He was also in charge of a newspaper called "Correo del Presidente." He directed the Central Office of Information (OCI), which is now the Ministry of Communication and Information. He also led the news agency Venpres, now known as ABN.
Teaching and Recognition
