Juan Carlos Sarnari (born January 22, 1942 – died April 21, 2023) was a famous Argentine football player. He played as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both in defense and attack.
Sarnari was a very good goal scorer in the Copa Libertadores, a big football tournament in South America. He scored 29 goals in this competition. This made him one of the top goal scorers in the history of the Copa Libertadores.
Playing Football
Juan Carlos Sarnari began his football journey at a young age. He started his career with River Plate when he was just 17 years old. This is one of the biggest clubs in Argentina.
In 1963, he played for a season with Huracán. After that, he returned to River Plate in 1964. He continued to play well for them.
Sarnari was so good that he was chosen to play for the Argentina national team. He represented his country in the 1966 FIFA World Cup, a huge international tournament. He played 6 games for Argentina and scored 1 goal.
Later, in 1967, Sarnari moved to Chile. There, he played for two different clubs: Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile. In 1973, he moved again, this time to Colombia. He played for Independiente Medellín and Independiente Santa Fe. He had a great achievement with Santa Fe, winning the 1975 league title.
Becoming a Manager
After his playing career, Sarnari became a football manager. He led several clubs in Colombia. These included Deportes Quindío, Independiente Santa Fe, and Once Caldas.
His Passing
Juan Carlos Sarnari passed away in Bogotá, Colombia, on April 21, 2023. He was 81 years old.
