Juan Isidro Jimenes Pereyra (born November 15, 1846, died May 9, 1919) was an important political leader in the Dominican Republic. He served as the country's president two times. His first term was from 1899 to 1902, and his second was from 1914 to 1916.
Political Life
Juan Isidro Jimenes was a key leader of a political group called the Blue Party. This party was also known as the Jimenistas or Los Bolos. They were often against another political group called the Horacistas or Los Coludos. This rival group was led by Horacio Vásquez.
First Presidency
Jimenes became president for the first time on November 15, 1899. He served until May 2, 1902. During this period, Horacio Vásquez was his vice president.
Second Presidency
His second time as president began on December 5, 1914. This term lasted until May 7, 1916. After his second term, a group called the Council of Secretaries of State took over.
Personal Life
Juan Isidro Jimenes was married to Josefa de los Santos Domínguez. She was known for speaking French and enjoying books, especially poetry.
Legacy
Juan Isidro Jimenes was buried at the Catedral de Santa María la Menor. This is a very old and important cathedral in the Dominican Republic.
