Juan Procopio de Bassecourt Thieulaine y Bryas López de Ochoa (born April 22, 1740 – died April 12, 1820) was an important Spanish leader. He held several high positions, including Baron of Maials and Count of Santa Clara. He was also the Captain General of Cuba from 1796 to 1799. Later, he became the Captain General of Catalonia from 1802 to 1808. During his time as Captain General of Cuba, he worked on building and improving many forts in Havana, like the Santa Clara Battery.

Juan Procopio Bassecourt y Bryas was born into a noble family. His father was Procopio Francisco de Bassecourt y Thieulaine. He was a Field Marshal in the Royal Spanish Army. His father also held titles like Marquis of Bassecourt and Count of Santa Clara. The family had served Spain for a long time, since the 1500s. Juan Procopio's mother was Ignés de Bryas.
His aunt, Maria Catalina de Bassecourt, married Juan Gonzalez-Valor. He was a Spanish military officer from Palermo. He later became the Marquis of Gonzalez.

Captain General of Cuba
From December 6, 1796, to May 13, 1799, Juan Procopio served as the Captain General of Cuba. This was a very important job. He was in charge of the island's defense and administration. During this time, he focused on strengthening Havana's defenses. He oversaw the building and improvement of many forts. One of these was the Santa Clara Battery, which helped protect the city's harbor.
Captain General of Catalonia
After his time in Cuba, Juan Procopio de Bassecourt became the Captain General of Catalonia. He held this position from May 14, 1802, until 1808. This role put him in charge of a key region in northeastern Spain.
