Where is Juanicó?
Juanicó is located right next to Route 5. It's about 8 kilometers (5 miles) south of the city of Canelones. Train tracks also run through the town. These tracks connect Montevideo to 25 de Agosto.
A Look at Juanicó's History
The town of Juanicó is named after Francisco Juanicó. In 1830, he stopped raising cattle. Instead, he started a winery. The land there was very good for growing grapes. This helped him make high-quality wine.
On November 19, 2002, Juanicó became an official "Villa." A "Villa" is a type of town in Uruguay. This change happened because of a special law called Ley Nº 17.587.
