Serving in the Ohio House
Becoming a Representative
Juanita Brent was first elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in November 2018. She ran without anyone opposing her in that election. This meant she was the only candidate for the position. She officially started her first term in January 2019.
What She Does: Committee Work
As a state representative, Juanita Brent works on different committees. These groups focus on specific topics to help create new laws. She is part of these important committees:
- Commerce and Labor Committee: This committee deals with business and worker rules.
- Transportation and Public Safety Committee: This group focuses on roads, travel, and keeping people safe.
- Agriculture and Rural Development Committee: She is a leader, called the Ranking Member, on this committee. It works on issues related to farming and country areas.
Future Plans: Cleveland City Council
Juanita Brent cannot run for re-election to the Ohio House in 2025 because of term limits. This means there is a rule about how many times a person can be elected to the same job. Because of this, she decided to run for a seat on the Cleveland City Council. She is challenging the current representative for Ward 1, Joe Jones.
