Judith Anne Goldsmith, who people often call Judy, is a smart computer scientist. She studies many interesting things like how computers can think (that's artificial intelligence), how hard problems are for computers to solve, and how computers can help us make good choices. She also teaches about computer science. Judy is a professor at the University of Kentucky.

Her Journey in Computer Science

Judy Goldsmith went to Princeton University and earned a degree in mathematics in 1982. Later, she continued her studies at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. There, she received her Ph.D. in mathematics in 1988, also studying computer science. Her big research project for her Ph.D. was about "Polynomial Isomorphisms and Near-Testable Sets." Her professor, Deborah Joseph, helped her with this work.

After finishing her studies, Judy worked at a few different places. She was a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a research instructor at Dartmouth College, and a visiting professor at Boston University. In 1991, she became a computer science professor at the University of Manitoba. Then, in 1993, she moved to the University of Kentucky, where she teaches today.

Awards and Achievements

Judy Goldsmith is recognized for her work and for helping others. In 1997, she won the Mentor Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences. This award is given to people who do a great job guiding and supporting students and younger scientists.
