Judy Murray is a famous Scottish tennis coach. She was born on September 8, 1959. She is well-known as the mother of two amazing tennis players, Jamie Murray and Sir Andy Murray.

Judy Murray's Early Life and Tennis Journey
Judy Murray was born in Bridge of Allan, Scotland. Her dad, Roy Erskine, was a football player. Growing up, Judy played tennis in the summer. In winter, she played badminton because there were no indoor tennis courts in Scotland.
She won 64 tennis titles in Scotland as a junior and an adult. Around 1976, she thought about becoming a professional tennis player. However, she decided not to because she missed home and had a bad experience in Barcelona.
How Judy Played Tennis
Judy said her tennis style was not about hitting super hard shots. Instead, she was very fast around the court. She was also good at understanding the game.
Studying and Coaching
Judy studied French and German at the University of Edinburgh. She later changed German to business studies. In 1981, she finished university. She even played for Great Britain at the World Student Games.
After university, Judy started coaching tennis. She was the first coach for both her sons, Jamie and Andy. She helped them a lot before they became professional players. In the early 1980s, she lived in Glasgow. She was a member of a tennis club there. She won the club championships three times.
Coaching and Leadership Roles
Besides coaching her sons, Judy has coached many other players. She worked with players at different levels for the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). This is the main tennis organization in Britain.
In December 2011, Judy became the captain of the Great Britain Fed Cup team. This team is for top female tennis players from Britain. She took this job to help more women become coaches. She also wanted to help stop sexism in sports. She stopped being the Fed Cup Captain in March 2016.

In 2017, Judy Murray received a special award. She was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). This award was for her great work in tennis. It also recognized her efforts to support women in sport and her charity work.
Judy is also a trustee for the Judy Murray Foundation. This is a charity that helps people in Scotland play more tennis.

Dancing on Strictly Come Dancing
On September 7, 2014, Judy joined the TV show Strictly Come Dancing. This is a popular show where celebrities learn to dance with professional dancers. Judy was paired with Anton du Beke.
They danced for eight weeks. In week eight, they danced a Viennese Waltz. They had one of the lowest scores and were voted off the show. Even though she was eliminated, her last dance was considered her best.
Judy Murray's Personal Life
In 1980, Judy married William Murray. They had two sons, Jamie (born 1986) and Andy (born 1987). They later divorced in 2005.
In 2021, Judy shared that she had a non-surgical face treatment. She said her sons used to tease her about her "turkey neck."
Judy has a tattoo of a large spider on her back. She explained that it reminds her of a story about Robert the Bruce and a spider. The story is about never giving up and being strong, even when things are hard.
