Julia Alcayde y Montoya was born in 1885 in a city called Gijón in Spain. She went to school in Madrid to study art at the School of Arts and Crafts.
Julia often showed her paintings at a big art show in Spain called the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. She won several awards there! She earned third-place medals in 1892 and 1895. Later, she won second-place medals in 1899, 1912, and 1920.
Her art was even shown far away in Chicago, Illinois, USA. This was at a huge event called the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. Her paintings were displayed in two special buildings: the Palace of Fine Arts and The Woman's Building.
Julia Alcayde y Montoya passed away in 1939 in Madrid, Spain.
