Julia Clukey is an American athlete who competed in the exciting sport of luge. She was born on April 29, 1985, in Augusta, Maine. Julia started her luge career in 2002 and went on to represent the United States in the Winter Olympics.

Julia Clukey is known for her dedication to luge. Luge is a winter sport where athletes slide down an icy track on a small sled. They go feet-first and try to go as fast as possible.
Her Luge Career
Julia began competing in luge in 2002. She quickly became a strong competitor. Her best finish in the Luge World Cup was 12th place. This happened in the 2007–08 season for women's singles.
At the FIL World Luge Championships, Julia also showed great skill. Her top performance was finishing fifth. This was in the women's singles event in Lake Placid in 2009.
Overcoming Challenges
Julia faced several health challenges during her career. In September 2009, she had knee surgery. Later that year, she also had a neck injury during training. Despite these setbacks, she worked hard to recover.
Her determination paid off. In December 2009, Julia was chosen to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. She finished 17th in the women's singles event. This was a great achievement, especially after her injuries.
In 2011, Julia faced another serious health issue. She underwent brain surgery for a condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation. She showed incredible strength and courage in overcoming this challenge.
Giving Back to the Community
After her competitive luge career, Julia became a motivational speaker. She works with the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association. Her role is to promote responsibility and good decision-making.
Since 2010, Julia has recorded public service announcements. She has also appeared on local TV and radio shows. Her goal is to raise awareness about making smart choices.
Inspiring Students
Julia has visited many high schools in Maine. She has spoken to over 9,000 students. Her talks focus on overcoming challenges and making good decisions. She shares her own experiences to inspire young people.
Summer Camp for Girls
Julia also hosts a special summer camp. It's called Julia Clukey's Camp for Girls. The camp is for girls aged 8 to 12. It takes place on Maranacook Lake in Readfield, Maine.
The camp helps girls learn important life skills. It is supported by the Kennebec Valley YMCA and the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association. Girls from all over Maine and even other states have attended this popular camp.
