Early Life and Career
Julia Mena started her career as a school teacher. This job helped her understand the needs of people in her community.
Later, she became involved in politics. From 1990 to 1995, she served as a deputy in the National Assembly of Nicaragua. The National Assembly is like the country's parliament, where laws are made. During this time, she also held the important position of first vice president of the National Assembly. She was a member of the Independent Liberal Party.
Becoming Vice President
In 1995, something big happened in Nicaragua's government. The previous Vice President, Virgilio Godoy, resigned from his position.
Because of this, the National Assembly elected Julia Mena to become the new Vice President. She served in this high office until January 1997.
