The 2020 presidential campaign of Julian Castro was when he tried to become the President of the United States. Julian Castro used to be the United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, which is a job in the government's cabinet. His campaign officially started on January 12, 2019.
Julian Castro was one of the first people from the Democratic Party to say they wanted to run for president in the 2020 United States presidential election. Before him, only a few others had announced their campaigns.
If Julian Castro had won, he would have been the first Hispanic president of the United States. He also would have been the first president to be elected directly from a cabinet position since Herbert Hoover.
Julian Castro stopped his campaign on January 2, 2020. This happened because he was not getting enough support in the polls. A few days later, on January 6, he announced that he supported Elizabeth Warren for president.
