Julian Knowle (born 29 April 1974) is a former professional tennis player from Austria. He played with both hands for his forehand, backhand, and even volleys, which was quite unique. Julian became Austria's most successful doubles player ever. He reached world No. 6 in the ATP doubles rankings in January 2008.

Julian Knowle: A Tennis Star

Julian Knowle had a great career in tennis, especially in doubles. He won 19 doubles titles and reached 25 finals. He was known for his strong two-handed playing style.

Early Tennis Career

Julian started his career playing in smaller tournaments called the ATP Challenger Series. He won several of these tournaments, including in Kyoto (1999) and Caracas (2001). He also won many Futures tournaments.

In singles, Julian reached his best ranking of world No. 86 in July 2002. However, he found more success playing doubles.

Reaching Grand Slam Finals

In 2004, Julian reached his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon. He teamed up with Nenad Zimonjić from Serbia. They played well but lost in the final match. Before Julian, only one other Austrian had reached a Wimbledon doubles final, back in 1938.

From 2005 to 2006, Julian played with fellow Austrian Jürgen Melzer. Together, they won two doubles tournaments and reached five other finals. They were a strong team.

Winning a Grand Slam Title

In 2007, Julian found a new partner, Simon Aspelin from Sweden. This was a very important year for him.

At the 2007 US Open, Julian and Simon won their first Grand Slam title! They were seeded tenth and beat some very strong teams. They even defeated the top-ranked team of Bob and Mike Bryan in the quarterfinals. In the final, they won against Pavel Vízner and Lukáš Dlouhý. This amazing win helped Julian reach the top 10 in doubles rankings for the first time.

Julian was the second Austrian tennis player to win a Grand Slam tournament. The first was Thomas Muster in 1995. Later, Jürgen Melzer and Dominic Thiem also won Grand Slam titles.

After their US Open win, Julian and Simon played in the Tennis Masters Cup in China. They made it all the way to the final, showing how good they were as a team.
