Julio César Gandarilla Bermejo (born 1943 – died 2020) was an important Cuban politician. He served as the Minister of the Interior for Cuba from 2017 until he passed away.

Early Life and Military Career
Julio César Gandarilla Bermejo was born in 1943 in a place called Matanzas Province in Cuba.
He helped start the National Revolutionary Militia, which was a group of citizens ready to defend their country. He also became a vice admiral in the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, which is a high rank in the navy. He took part in the Angolan Civil War. For 16 years, he led the Military Counterintelligence Directorate, a group that works to protect the country from secret threats.
Political Roles and Key Events
Gandarilla Bermejo was a member of the Communist Party of Cuba. He was also a deputy, or representative, in the National Assembly of People's Power, which is Cuba's main government body.
In 2015, he became the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Interior. This meant he was the second-in-command. In January 2017, he became the main Minister of the Interior. He was the sixth person to hold this important job since it was created in 1961.
In the same month he became minister, he signed a special agreement called a memorandum of understanding with the US president at the time, Barack Obama. This kind of agreement helps countries work together on certain issues. As Minister of the Interior, he introduced new laws to help keep order and manage public gatherings.
In October 2019, Gandarilla Bermejo signed another important agreement, this time with the Russian Security Council. The next month, the United States stopped him from entering their country. This was because Cuba supported Nicolás Maduro during the Venezuelan presidential crisis. His two sons were also affected by these rules.
Later Life and Passing
Julio César Gandarilla Bermejo passed away from cancer on November 24, 2020. He was cremated without a public funeral ceremony.
