Stories
This book is packed with short stories, each one showing Andy getting into funny and annoying situations.
Are We There Yet
This story starts with Andy on a long car trip. He keeps asking his dad, "Are we there yet?" and tries to catch a fly. His dad gets so annoyed that he makes Andy get out of the car! Andy is left alone in the middle of nowhere. Luckily, a kind man on a motorcycle stops to help. He gives Andy a ride to catch up with his family's car. Andy then does something crazy: he jumps from the motorcycle onto the car's windshield! His parents are shocked. His dad tells him he was only five minutes away from being picked up anyway!
Copycat From Ballarat
Andy decides to go to his sister Jen's school dance. He dresses up as a girl to try and impress Craig Bennett. Craig is a big crush for all the girls, including Jen. After the dance, Andy's wig falls off, and everyone sees he's a boy! Craig gets really mad that he danced with Andy. Andy also feels super embarrassed in front of his own crush, Lisa.
Wish you Weren't Here
Andy visits his grandparents in Mildura. He brings along a garden gnome from his neighbor's yard. Soon, strange things start happening around him. Andy begins to think that the gnome might actually be alive!
Imaginary Friends
Andy wants to skip school sports. He pretends to have an imaginary friend named Fred. He tells his mom he needs to look after Fred. Andy thinks he's better than everyone at sports. He wants to give others a chance to win. But then his mom gets really attached to Fred. So, Andy invents a mean imaginary friend called Damien. Unfortunately, his mom gets attached to Damien too!
In the Shower with Andy
Andy wants to know what it feels like to fill the shower with water. He decides to do this when Mr. and Mrs. Bainbridge are visiting for dinner. Andy uses a silicone gun to seal the shower door. But he accidentally breaks the hot water tap! He ends up nearly drowning in cold water. The only way out is through the fan vent. He pulls himself up into the ceiling. He's on the insulation as the water rises. A fiber pokes him, and he drops his rubber duck. He goes after the duck, but the ceiling isn't strong there. The ceiling breaks, and Andy falls right onto the dinner table!
Would You Rather?
At the dinner table, Andy asks his family a silly question. He asks, "Would you rather be eaten by ants or lions?" Andy and his dad have a long discussion about this. They keep getting interrupted by others. The story ends without anyone giving a clear answer.
Murder, Bloody Murder!
Andy and Danny decide to play a prank. They yell "MURDER, BLOODY MURDER!" at their neighbor, Mr. Broadbent. They do this for a long time. Mr. Broadbent gets very angry and tells them to be quiet. But at the very end, they just yell it again!
The Last Jaffa
Andy is at the cinema watching a James Bond movie. He's stuck behind a lady with very tall hair. He loses his last Jaffa candy. While trying to find it, he annoys many people. He's even accused of being a thief! Security is called to catch him. Andy uses spy-like tricks to escape. To get away from the crowd, he jumps through the movie screen! On the other side, he finds lots of Jaffas and other candy. They were left on the floor from past movie-goers.
Swinging on the Clothesline
Andy spends a lot of time trying to break the clothesline speed record. This makes his parents very annoyed. To stop him, his dad trades their family pet, Sooty, for a huge dog. This new dog is meant to guard the clothesline. But Andy uses bait to get the dog to swing him around! He goes too fast and lets go. Andy flies right into the kitchen window! His last words are, "If the window doesn't kill me, Mum and Dad will."
