Jy Simpkin (born 5 March 1998) is a professional Australian rules footballer. He plays for the North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). The AFL is the biggest Australian Rules Football competition.
Jy was chosen by the North Melbourne Football Club as their first pick in the 2016 national draft. This meant he was the twelfth player picked overall in that year's draft. He played his first game in 2017. This debut match was against the West Coast Eagles at Etihad Stadium.

Early Life and Background
Jy Simpkin was born in Mooroopna, a town in Victoria. He has both Aboriginal (from the Yorta Yorta people) and European family roots.
He went to high school at Scotch College. He was able to attend this school thanks to a special scholarship. This scholarship was part of the AIEF program.
Becoming a Leader
Before the start of the 2023 AFL season, Jy Simpkin was given an important role. He was named a co-captain of the North Melbourne team. He shared this leadership role with Luke McDonald. They took over from the previous captain, Jack Ziebell.
In 2025, Jy Simpkin became the sole captain of the North Melbourne Football Club. This means he is the main leader for his team on and off the field.
Career Highlights
Jy has achieved many great things in his football career. He has won the Syd Barker Medal twice, in 2021 and 2022. This award is given to the best and fairest player at the North Melbourne Football Club each year. In 2025, he also won the Polly Farmer Medal.
