Jürg Schubiger (born October 14, 1936 – died September 15, 2014) was a talented Swiss writer. He was also a psychotherapist. He became famous for writing amazing children's books.

In 1996, he won the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis (German Youth Literature Award). He received this award for his book Als die Welt noch jung war (When the World was New). This shows how much his stories were loved.

Later, in 2008, Schubiger received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal. This award is one of the highest honors for children's writers and illustrators. It is given every two years by the International Board on Books for Young People. It recognized his "lasting contribution" to children's literature.

Jürg Schubiger was born in Zürich, a big city in Switzerland. He grew up in another Swiss city called Winterthur. He studied at the University of Zürich. There, he learned about German language, psychology, and philosophy. He even wrote his PhD thesis about the famous writer Franz Kafka.

He lived in Zürich for most of his life. Jürg Schubiger passed away in 2014 when he was 77 years old.

  • Zebra, Zecke, Zauberwort (Zebra, Tick, Magic Word). He wrote this book with Isabel Pin in 2009.
  • Der Wind hat Geburtstag (The Wind Has a Birthday). This book was released in 2010.
  • De Strubelpeter. This was a dialect version of a classic story, published in 2010.
