Jūrokucha facts for kids
Jūrokucha (pronounced Joo-roh-koo-cha) is a special blended tea drink from Japan. It's made by a company called Asahi Soft Drinks. This tea was first created by Chanson Cosmetics as a dry tea. Then, in March 1993, Chanson and Asahi Soft Drinks teamed up to sell Jūrokucha as a ready-to-drink beverage. Its packaging and taste were updated in February 2007.
What's in Jūrokucha?
The name Jūrokucha literally means "16 teas." This drink is a mix of sixteen different ingredients. These ingredients come from leaves, grains, and even fruits!
Some of the things in Jūrokucha are:
- Coix lacryma-jobi var. ma-yuen (Job's Tears)
- Barley
- Kuromame (black soybeans)
- Brown rice
- Habucha
- Mulberry leaves
- Jiaogulan
- Kombu (a type of seaweed)
- Lingzhi mushroom
- Sasa veitchii (a type of bamboo)
- Persimmon
- Sesame
- Mikan peel (from a Japanese citrus fruit)
- Eucommia
- Black rice
- Perilla leaves
All these ingredients contain something called dietary fiber. Fiber is good for your body, especially for digestion. Because of these healthy ingredients, Jūrokucha is known as a special "health food" in Japan. You can also find a version of Jūrokucha that has no caffeine.
Why is Jūrokucha Popular?
Jūrokucha is often sold as "Jūrokucha with your meal." This highlights that it's a healthy drink to have when you eat. It's promoted as being helpful for people who want to manage their sugar levels after eating. This is because of certain ingredients that can help with sugar control.
Many famous people in Japan have appeared in commercials for Jūrokucha. Some of these celebrities include Yūki Amami, Satomi Kobayashi, and Norika Fujiwara.

Because Jūrokucha became so popular, other companies started making their own blended tea drinks.
- Kyushu Railway Company made a drink called "Nijūyoncha." This means "twenty-four teas."
- Sangaria created "Nijūitcha," which means "twenty-one teas."
- Coca-Cola sells a drink called "Sōkenbicha." This one has 12 different teas mixed together.
- A company in Korea also makes a blended drink with 17 different teas.
