Khia Danielle Edgerton (born October 19, 1978 – died July 21, 2008) was a super talented American DJ, MC, radio host, and businesswoman. She was much better known by her stage name, K-Swift. She became famous for her amazing skills on the turntables and her lively radio show. K-Swift was a true pioneer in the Baltimore music scene, especially with Baltimore club music.

Early Life and Education

K-Swift grew up in Randallstown, Maryland. Her parents were Joseph and Juanita Edgerton. She finished high school at Randallstown High School in 1996. After a short time at Catonsville Community College, she started working as an intern at the radio station 92Q.

Becoming a Radio Star

K-Swift got her first DJ turntables when she was just 15 years old. She quickly started DJing and organizing parties at a place called The Twilight Zone in Arbutus. When she was 18, she began interning at 92Q. She worked hard and moved up the ranks at the station. By 1998, she earned a co-hosting spot on the show "OFF THE HOOK RADIO." This show, with her co-host Squirrel Wyde, became the number one radio show in Baltimore.

K-Swift the Entrepreneur

Besides performing live and throwing parties, K-Swift was also a smart businesswoman. She owned and ran a company called Club Queen Entertainment. K-Swift also started a Graphics Company and the Next Level Management Company. She managed a record pool, which helps DJs get new music. She also sold her own music mixes, called mixtapes, online.

Music and DJing

K-Swift was well-known for her DJing at popular clubs like Hammerjacks and The Paradox. She released her music through a Baltimore company called Unruly Records, as well as her own Next Level company. Her albums were incredibly popular in the Baltimore area. She even sold more copies than some big-name artists like Soulja Boy Tell 'Em and Pharaoh Gamo.

Her Legacy

K-Swift passed away on July 21, 2008. Her passing was a huge loss for the Baltimore community. Thousands of fans attended her funeral, which was held at Morgan State University.

After her passing, her impact continued. In 2009, Radio One station WERQ-FM 92Q Jams created a special scholarship. This scholarship, named the Khia "K-Swift" Memorial Scholarship Contest and Internship, helped young people interested in music and radio. The winner received a scholarship to the Sheffield Institute for the Recording Arts and an internship at 92Q. Earin Saunders was the first winner of this special award.

K-Swift is remembered for helping to make Baltimore club music popular across the country. A performer and filmmaker named TT the Artist even named her record label "Club Queen" in K-Swift's honor. TT the Artist's documentary, Dark City: Beneath the Beat, also honors K-Swift. It shows how important she was in shaping the club music scene we know today. Baltimore rapper Tate Kobang also mentioned K-Swift in his song "Bank Rolls," saying, "I swear the city ain't the same since we lost Swift. She'll live forever, to the city she was God's gift."
