Club History
How the Club Started
The club began in 1911 with the name S.K. Aldenardia. A few years later, in 1919, it joined with another club called F.C. Audenarais. Together, they became S.V. Audenaerde. Later, the name was changed to S.V. Oudenaarde. This change used the Dutch spelling of the city's name instead of the French one. In 1951, the club was given the special right to use the word Koninklijke in its name. This means "Royal" and shows it's a respected club.
Climbing the Ranks
S.V. Oudenaarde became a member of the Belgian Football Association in 1912. The team first reached the second highest football league in 1924. However, they only stayed there for one year. They finished last in their group and moved down a league.
It took a long time for the club to return to the second division. This happened in the 1980–81 season. This time, they did much better! They finished in seventh place, which was their best result ever in the club's history. They even achieved the same position the next year.
Ups and Downs
In 1983, the team could not avoid moving down a league again. In 1988, they finished last in the third division. This meant they were moved down to the fourth level of Belgian football, called promotion. The club did not return to the higher leagues until the new century. In 2006, Oudenaarde won the championship of the promotion A league. This was a great achievement for the club.
