KWord is a computer program that helps you write and edit text, like a digital notebook. It's a free program, meaning you can use it without paying. KWord is part of a bigger set of programs called KOffice, which works with the K Desktop Environment.

KWord uses a special way to arrange text and pictures, called 'frames'. Think of frames as separate boxes on your page. You can put text, images, or other things inside these boxes. You can move these boxes anywhere on your page. Even though each page starts with its own frame, KWord lets you connect frames. This means your text can flow smoothly from one box to another, even across different pages. Using frames makes it easy to create cool designs with text and pictures.

KWord's Story

KWord was first created in 1998. It was part of the KOffice project. The idea for using 'frames' came from another program called FrameMaker. The person who first wrote KWord said it was their first time making a program like this. So, the first version had some parts that were hard to work with.

In 2000, KWord had many problems that were difficult to fix. No one was working on solving them anymore. The program had not even had an official release yet. Later that year, a new person took charge of KWord. They worked through 2000 and early 2001. Their job was to fix all the issues in the program's code.
