Kaavi is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Finland. It is part of the Northern Savonia region. Kaavi is also considered a part of the historical area known as Karelia.
As of 31 December 2023, Kaavi has about 2,628 people living there. The total area of Kaavi is around 789.59 square kilometres (304.86 sq mi). A good portion of this area, about 115.49 km2 (44.59 sq mi), is covered by water, like lakes and rivers. This means there are about 3.9 inhabitants per square kilometre (10/sq mi) people per square kilometer.
Kaavi is located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) from the city of Kuopio and 90 kilometres (56 mi) from Joensuu. Its neighbors are the municipalities of Kuopio, Juuka, Outokumpu, Polvijärvi, and Tuusniemi. The main language spoken in Kaavi is Finnish.
