Early Life and Education
Kadambur M. R. Janarthanan was born on October 22, 1929. His birthplace was Kadambur village in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu. He studied science at the Presidency College of Madras University.
His Work Before Politics
Before becoming a politician, Janarthanan worked as an agriculturist. He was also involved in trading. In 1976, during a time when special rules were in place, he was held under the MISA.
Political Career
Kadambur M. R. Janarthanan had a long and successful political career. He was a prominent leader of the AIADMK party.
Serving in the Lok Sabha
He was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1984. The Lok Sabha is one of the two houses of the Indian Parliament. He represented the Tirunelveli area. He was elected again in 1989, 1991, and 1998. This shows he was a popular leader in his region.
Role as a Union Minister
From 1998 to 1999, Janarthanan served as a union minister. He was the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. He also had extra duties as the Minister of State for Finance. This included looking after revenue, banking, and insurance. He held these important roles during the time of the Second Vajpayee Ministry.
A Talented Writer
Besides his political work, Janarthanan was also a short story writer. He won an award for his short story called "Odum Railil Oruvan." This story was written in Tamil and won a competition held by Ananda Vikatan magazine.
