Kadima was a political party in Israel. It was known for its "centrist" views, meaning it aimed for the middle ground in politics. The party also supported "liberal" ideas, which focus on individual freedoms and rights.
Kadima was started on 24 November 2005. It was formed by politicians who left the Likud party. They mainly wanted to support Ariel Sharon's plan to remove Israeli settlements and soldiers from the Gaza Strip. Soon after, some politicians from the Labor party also joined Kadima.

What Was Kadima?
Kadima was a new kind of political party in Israel. It brought together people from different older parties. Its main goal was to find a middle path for Israel's future. This included ideas about peace and security.
How Kadima Started
The party was founded by Ariel Sharon, who was the Prime Minister of Israel at the time. He wanted to make big changes for Israel's security. Many people in his own Likud party did not agree with his plans. So, he decided to create a new party. This new party, Kadima, would support his ideas.
Kadima's Time in Power
After Ariel Sharon became unwell, Ehud Olmert took over as the party leader. In the 2006 elections, Kadima became the biggest party in the Knesset (Israel's parliament). They won 29 out of 120 seats. This allowed Kadima to lead the government. They formed a "coalition government," which means they worked with other parties.
Kadima led the government for several years. Other important leaders included Tzipi Livni and Shaul Mofaz. The party continued to be a major force in Israeli politics for some time.
Why Kadima Was Special
Kadima holds a special place in Israel's history. Before Kadima, only two main parties had ever led the government: Mapai/Labor or Likud. Kadima was the first and only other party to lead Israel's government. This showed that a new political group could rise and take charge. However, Kadima did not take part in the 2015 elections. The party eventually stopped being active.
