Kaduvetti Guru, whose birth name was J. Gurunathan, was also known as J. Guru. He was born on February 1, 1961, and passed away on May 25, 2018. He was an Indian politician who was elected twice as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu. He also served as the president of the Vanniyar Sangam, a community organization.
About Kaduvetti Guru
J. Gurunathan was born in Kaduvetti, a place now located in Ariyalur district, Tamil Nadu. His parents were Rathina Jayaraman and Kalyani. He passed away on May 25, 2018, at the age of 57, due to health issues. He was survived by his son and daughter.
Political Journey
Gurunathan began his journey in the Vanniyar Sangam organization in 1980. He worked hard and became its president in the early 2000s.
He was a member of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) party. This party was formed from the Vanniyar Sangam.
Elections and Wins
Gurunathan first tried to win a seat in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 1996, but he was not successful.
However, in the 2001 elections, he was elected as a PMK candidate. He won from the Andimadam constituency.
In the 2006 elections, he ran for the Jayankondam constituency but did not win. He tried again in the 2011 elections and won the seat.
In the 2016 elections, he aimed to keep his seat. He came in second place to J. K. N. Ramajeyalingam.
Party Alliances
In June 2008, comments made by Gurunathan led to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party ending its partnership with the PMK. This relationship had been difficult for some time.
In the 2009 general elections, Guru ran in the Tiruvannamalai constituency. He faced a significant loss in this election. This happened because the DMK party focused on opposing PMK candidates after their alliance ended.
Legacy
In February 2019, a new group called "Maaveeran J Guru Vanniyar Sangam" was formed. This group stated that it would oppose Anbumani Ramadoss in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Vengai Ayyanar, a coordinator for the group, explained that this situation arose due to the treatment of Guru's family members after his passing.
