The Story of Kahatchee
The name Kahatchee comes from an old Native American town. This town belonged to the Upper Creek people. They lived in this area long ago. The name also inspired Kahatchee Creek and the Kahatchie Hills nearby.
In the Creek language, "Kahatchie" means "cane creek." This refers to a type of tall grass called river cane. This cane grows along waterways all over Alabama.
