Kalbe Sadiq (born June 22, 1939 – died November 24, 2020) was an important Islamic scholar from India. He was known for his work in education and helping his community.

He was born in 1939 in Lucknow. He passed away on November 24, 2020, after being sick for a long time. In 2021, he was given a special national award called the Padma Bhushan. His father, Kalbe Hussain, was also an Islamic scholar. His brother, Kalbe Abid, was also a scholar and led the Shia Theology Department at Aligarh Muslim University.

What Was Kalbe Sadiq's Education Like?

Kalbe Sadiq started his schooling at religious schools called Madrasas in Lucknow. These included Sultan ul Madaris and Nazmia. Later, he went to Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh. There, he earned a PhD in Arabic Literature in 1971. He even won a gold medal for his studies!

Besides Arabic, Kalbe Sadiq was very good at other languages. He knew Urdu, Persian, English, and Hindi. He traveled to many countries to give speeches and lectures about Islamic teachings.

How Did Kalbe Sadiq Help His Community?

In the mid-1970s, Kalbe Sadiq started working on religious and social issues. He saw that many people in his community were struggling. He believed that a big reason for this was a lack of education. So, he decided to help spread modern education and knowledge. He wanted to fight against illiteracy and a lack of understanding. This became his main goal in life.

Kalbe Sadiq started the Tauheedul Muslimeen Trust on April 18, 1984. Its main goal was to give money and help to students who were poor or in need. This way, they could get an education.

  • He also helped rebuild and make bigger the Imam Bargah of Ghufran Maab in Lucknow.
  • He helped fix up the tomb of Hazrat Meer Anees, a famous Urdu writer.

He was also the President of The Era’s Medical College & Hospital Lucknow. He was the general secretary of the All India Shia Conference. He was also a member of another group called Anjuman-e-Wazifiya-e-Sadat-o-Momineen.
