Kalix Bandyförening, often called Kalix BF or just KB by its fans, is a sports club from Kalix, Sweden. It's famous for its bandy team. Bandy is a winter sport played on ice, a bit like ice hockey but with a ball instead of a puck. The club was started on May 2, 1990.
Kalix BF has played in the top bandy league in Sweden, called Elitserien. They were in this league during the 2011–12 season. They returned to the top league for the 2013–14 season and have been playing there since.
How Kalix BF Started
The Club's Early Days
Kalix BF was not always known by its current name. It began as Kalix Nyborg BK. This new club was formed by combining the bandy teams from two older local clubs. These clubs were Nyborgs SK and IFK Kalix. Imagine two sports teams joining forces to make one stronger team!
Changing the Name
The name "Kalix BF" was officially chosen later. This happened on June 20, 2001. So, the club has been known as Kalix BF for many years now. Interestingly, one of the original clubs, Nyborgs SK, later started its own bandy team again.
What is Bandy?
Bandy is a really exciting winter sport. It's played on a large ice rink, similar in size to a football field. Each team has 11 players, including a goalie. Players use sticks to hit a small ball into the opponent's net. It's a fast-paced game that needs a lot of skill and teamwork.
