The Elitserien (which means "Elite League" in Swedish) is the top bandy league in Sweden. It has been the highest league since the 2007–08 season. There are 14 teams that play in the league.

The season always ends with an exciting final game in March. This big game was held at Studenternas IP in Uppsala for many years, from 1991 to 2012. Later, it moved to Friends Arena in Solna for two years (2013 and 2014). From 2015 to 2017, the final was played at the Tele2 Arena. In 2018, the final returned to the Studenternas IP indoor stadium, which can hold 4,600 fans.

How the Season Works

During the regular season, all fourteen teams play against each other. Each team plays every other team twice: once at home and once away. This means each team plays a total of 26 games.

The best six teams from the regular season go straight to the playoffs. The playoffs are special games that decide the league champion. Teams ranked 7th to 10th play extra games to earn the last two spots in the championship playoffs.

The four teams at the bottom of the league play against the top two teams from the Allsvenskan league. These games decide which teams will stay in Elitserien and which teams will move down to a lower league.

Swedish Bandy Champions

The Elitserien season leads to a playoff to decide the national bandy champions. The final game for the Swedish championship has been played every year since 1907.

Before Elitserien started in 2007–08, there were other league structures. The most recent one was called the double structure of Allsvenskan and Elitserien.

Since Elitserien began, Sandvikens AIK has finished at the top of the regular league four times. This is more than any other team. However, winning the regular league is not as important as winning the championship final.

Top Goal Scorers

Patrik Nilsson holds the record for the most goals scored in a single Elitserien season, with 94 goals.
