Getting Around Edsbyn
Trains and Railways
Edsbyn and nearby towns like Alfta once had train service. This railway, called the Bollnäs–Orsa Railway, was finished in 1900. It was first used to transport wood from the forests. Later, people could also travel by train.
However, in the 1960s, new and better roads were built. More and more people and goods started using these roads instead of the trains. Because of this, passenger train service stopped in 1971. Freight (cargo) trains continued for a while but stopped completely in 2004. The railway line hasn't been maintained since 2015.
Some groups, like Inlandsbanan, want to reopen the line for freight. They especially want to transport wood and limestone. Local leaders from several municipalities, including Ovanåker and Bollnäs, also think it's a good idea. Reopening the line would cost at least 60 million SEK.
The closest train station that is still in use today is in Bollnäs.
Roads
Most people traveling to and from Edsbyn now use roads. The main road is Länsväg 301. It connects Edsbyn to nearby towns like Alfta, Bollnäs, and Rättvik.
Public Buses
Edsbyn has public bus services. Three bus lines, 100, 39, and 172, serve the town. These buses are run by Xtrafik, which is the public transport company for Gävleborg County.

Climate in Edsbyn
Edsbyn has a subarctic climate. This means it has very long winters that can be quite cold. Sometimes, there are very strong cold periods. The summers are short but usually mild.
Edsbyn is located in a river valley. It's also surrounded by tall hills. This makes it a bit like a "frost hollow." This means the temperature can change a lot between day and night. It also has bigger seasonal changes than other places in Hälsingland.
