Village Location and Size
Kansas is in the southwest part of Edgar County. It is very close to the border with Coles County. The village sits where two main roads, Illinois Route 16 and Illinois Route 49, meet. It is about ten miles southwest of a larger town called Paris. The total area of Kansas is about 1.03 square miles (2.65 square kilometers). This entire area is land.
Kansas Village History
Kansas has a long history. A post office opened in the village way back in 1855. The town got its name from the Kansas Territory.
Deckerball: A Local Game
Around 1972, students and their physical education teacher at the local high school created a game called Deckerball. This game might have been the start of another popular game called Wallyball. Wallyball is a game played in a racquetball court, similar to volleyball.

Tri-County Titans Sports
In 2004, Kansas High School joined with Oakland High School to form a sports team partnership. This partnership was called the Tri-County Co-op, and their new team name became the Tri-County Titans. Later, Shiloh High School also joined this co-op. This means students from these three schools play sports together as the Tri-County Titans.
