Golf Courses at Kapalua
Kapalua Resort has two amazing golf courses. They are called The Bay Course and The Plantation Course.
The Bay Course
The Bay Course winds through old buildings and pretty tropical gardens. It goes all the way to the ocean. This course hosted a big golf tournament in 2008. It was called the Kapalua LPGA Classic. This was a full tournament for women golfers on the LPGA Tour.
The Plantation Course
The Plantation Course is a traditional golf course. It offers amazing views of the mountains and the ocean. Every January, this course hosts a special golf event. It is the first event of the year for the PGA Tour. Only golfers who won a tournament the year before can play in it. It's called the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
This tournament has had different sponsors over the years. From 2011 to 2016, Hyundai Motor Company was the sponsor. In 2018, Sentry Insurance became the sponsor.
The Plantation Course is special in a few ways. It is the only course on the PGA Tour that plays to a par 73. Most other courses play to a par between 70 and 72. It also has seven holes that are longer than 500 yards. But it also has six shorter par-4 holes (less than 400 yards). The course has big changes in height. For example, the 17th hole starts high on a mountain. The course then slopes down through the 18th hole. The 1st hole finishes the downhill path.
Both The Plantation Course and The Bay Course are owned by TY Management. Since April 1, 2011, a company called Troon Golf has been in charge of running the golf activities at both courses.
