Karabi Deka Hazarika is a well-known writer and professor from Assam, India. She is famous for her poems, songs, novels, and books for children. She has also written many books about literature and her travels.

Early Life and Education

Karabi Hazarika was born in Borjan, a small town in Nagaland. Her father, Minakanta Hazarika, was a doctor who helped many people in the Naga hills. Her uncle, Atul Chandra Hazarika, was also a writer and inspired her a lot.

Karabi grew up in the historic town of Sibsagar. She was a very bright student. In 1969, she got top marks in her higher secondary exam. Later, she became the first student to get first-class honors in Assamese from Sibsagar Girl's College at Dibrugarh University. In 1974, she finished her master's degree at Gauhati University, again topping her class. She then earned her doctorate, studying the life and ideas of a famous scholar named Madhavdeva.

In 1980, Karabi married Dr. Kandarpa Kumar Deka, who was also an educator. They have two sons.

Academic Journey

Dr. Deka Hazarika started working as a professor in the Assamese Department at Dibrugarh University in 1976. She became a full professor and later held a special position called the Lakshminath Bezbarooah Chair. She also served as the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at the university.

A big achievement in her career was helping to create the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for Studies in Performing Arts in 2008. This center was the first in Northeast India to offer college degrees in Music, Dance, and Theatre. Professor Hazarika also helped include traditional dance forms from Assam's old monasteries in university studies. Many students have completed their research under her guidance.

Literary Contributions
