Karadantu (Kannada: ಕರದಂಟು) is a delicious sweet treat from the state of Karnataka, India. It's a special dessert that many people enjoy. The name Karadantu means fried-edible gum in the local language, Kannada. This sweet has a chewy texture and is full of flavor.
Karadantu is made using edible gum, which is a natural sticky substance. It also includes tasty dried fruits, bengal gram flour, and jaggery (a type of unrefined sugar). Sometimes, seeds from the marking-nut (Semecarpus anacardium) tree are added too.
This sweet was first created in a town called Gokak in Karnataka. People there started adding jaggery to other desserts, and that's how Karadantu came to be! Today, Gokak is very famous for its Karadantu. Another town called Amingad in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka is also well-known for making this sweet. While the Karadantu from Gokak and Amingad taste very similar, they can be a little different because of the exact ingredients used.
