Karan Higdon, born on September 8, 1996, is a former American professional football player. He played as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Michigan Wolverines. During his time in college, he was recognized twice with All-Big Ten honors for his excellent performance.

Early Life and High School Football

Karan Higdon grew up in Sarasota, Florida. He went to Riverview High School in his hometown. While playing football there, he ran for an impressive 1,471 yards and scored 16 touchdowns.

Initially, Higdon had planned to play college football for Iowa. However, after visiting the campus in Ann Arbor, he decided to commit to the University of Michigan instead.

College Football Career at Michigan

Karan Higdon played college football for the Michigan Wolverines. He showed great skill as a running back throughout his college career.

Starting Out: Freshman and Sophomore Years

As a freshman in 2015, Higdon played in a few games, gaining 19 rushing yards. In 2016, during his sophomore year, he played in 12 games. He had two games where he ran for over 100 yards. Overall, he gained 425 rushing yards and scored six touchdowns that season.

Becoming a Star: Junior Year (2017)

In the 2017 season, Higdon became Michigan's top rusher. He gained 994 yards, leading his team in rushing. On October 14, 2017, he had an amazing game, rushing for a career-best 200 yards and scoring three touchdowns. He was the first Michigan running back since 2007 to rush for 200 or more yards in a single game.

Later that season, on November 4, 2017, Higdon had another 200-yard game. This made him the first Michigan running back since 2004 to have two 200-yard games in the same season. Because of his outstanding play, he was named the Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. After the 2017 season, Higdon was recognized as a third-team All-Big Ten player.

Senior Year Success (2018)

The 2018 season was another strong year for Higdon. He continued to have many games where he rushed for over 100 yards. He even scored the game-winning touchdown in a close game against Northwestern.

During this season, he reached a major milestone. He became the 23rd player in Michigan's history to gain over 2,000 career rushing yards. He also had a streak of seven consecutive games with over 100 rushing yards, which was the second-longest streak in Michigan history.

On November 10, 2018, Higdon surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the season. He was the first Michigan running back to achieve this since 2011. He finished the 2018 season with 1,178 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. After the season, he was named to the first-team All-Big Ten. Higdon chose not to play in Michigan's bowl game, the Peach Bowl, so he could get ready for the 2019 NFL draft.

Professional Football Career

After his successful college career, Karan Higdon hoped to play in the NFL.

Joining the Houston Texans

In 2019, Higdon was not chosen in the 2019 NFL draft. However, he signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. An undrafted free agent is a player who wasn't picked by any team in the draft but still gets a chance to sign with a team.

The Texans later released him during their final roster cuts. But on September 1, 2019, Higdon was signed to the Texans' practice squad. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster. They can be called up to play if needed. He then signed a reserve/future contract with the Texans in January 2020, which meant he would stay with the team for the next season.

However, on September 5, 2020, Higdon was waived (released) by the Texans again. He has not played in the NFL since then.
