Kardam, Prince of Turnovo, was the eldest son of Tsar Simeon II of Bulgaria and his wife Margarita Gómez-Acebo y Cejuela. He was born on December 2, 1962, in Madrid, Spain.
Kardam was born after the royal family had left Bulgaria. Even so, he was sometimes called a crown prince. He was also known as Kardam of Bulgaria. The title "Prince of Turnovo" is traditionally given to the person who would be next in line to the Bulgarian throne.
Prince Kardam was in a serious car accident in 2008. He suffered severe injuries and sadly did not recover. He passed away from a lung infection in a hospital in Madrid on April 7, 2015, when he was 52 years old.
Early Life and Family
Kardam was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1962. His father, Simeon II, was the last Tsar (King) of Bulgaria. The royal family had to leave Bulgaria before Kardam was born. He grew up in Spain with his parents and siblings.
Kardam married Miriam de Ungría y López. Together, they had two sons. Their names are Prince Boris and Prince Beltrán.
Prince of Turnovo
The title "Prince of Turnovo" is very old. It is usually given to the person who is the heir apparent to the Bulgarian throne. This means they are next in line to become king. Even though Bulgaria is no longer a monarchy, this title is still used by the royal family.
Later Life
In 2008, Prince Kardam was involved in a serious road accident. He was badly hurt and never fully recovered from his injuries. He received care for many years. He passed away in 2015 due to a lung infection.
