Karim Haggui (born on January 20, 1984) is a former professional footballer from Tunisia. He was a strong defender who played for many clubs and also represented his country, Tunisia, in international matches. His last club was FC St. Gallen.

Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Tunisia
Karim Haggui was born in Kasserine, Tunisia. He began his football journey in 1998 with a local team called AS Kasserine. After two years, in 2000, he moved to Etoile du Sahel, a bigger club. He officially started his professional career there in 2003. He played for Etoile du Sahel for one season before moving to France.
Playing in France with RC Strasbourg
In the summer of 2004, Karim joined the French club RC Strasbourg. He made his first appearance in France's top league, Ligue 1, on August 7, 2004. In his first season, he played 20 games and helped his team win the French League Cup. This win also meant they qualified for the UEFA Cup, a big European competition.
In his second season, he continued to play regularly and even scored two goals in one game against Toulouse. He also scored a goal in the UEFA Cup. After the 2005–06 season, Strasbourg was moved down to a lower league. Because of this, Karim decided to look for a new team in Germany.
Moving to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen
In the summer of 2006, Karim Haggui joined German club Bayer Leverkusen, which plays in the top German league, the Bundesliga. He made his debut for them in July 2006 in the German League Cup. His first Bundesliga game was on August 12, 2006, where his team won 3–0.
During his time at Leverkusen, he played many games. In his first season, he played 24 Bundesliga matches and scored a goal in the UEFA Cup. In his second season, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a game against Bochum in September 2007. He scored another Bundesliga goal that season and played in 11 UEFA Cup games. Leverkusen reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup that year. In his third season, he played fewer games but still scored a goal in his first match of the season. He also helped Leverkusen reach the final of the DFB-Pokal, which is the German Cup.
Joining Hannover 96
On June 1, 2009, Karim Haggui moved to another Bundesliga team, Hannover 96, on a free transfer. He signed a two-year contract. He played his first game for Hannover in the German Cup in August 2009. He scored his first goal for the club in a Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg in October 2009. In one game against Borussia Mönchengladbach, he accidentally scored two goals for the other team. He continued to be a key player for Hannover 96 in his second season.
Later Club Teams
After his time at Hannover 96, Karim Haggui joined VfB Stuttgart on September 2, 2013, signing a two-year deal. Later, for the 2015–16 season, he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf. His final club was FC St. Gallen, which he joined on August 15, 2016, and played there for two years.
International Career for Tunisia
Karim Haggui was an important player for the Tunisian national football team for many years, starting in 2003. His first international game was a friendly match against Guinea on August 20, 2003.
Africa Cup of Nations and Olympics
His first major tournament with Tunisia was the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Tunisia. Karim was the youngest player on the team. He played in all six of Tunisia's matches as they went on to win the championship! In the semi-finals, he scored a crucial penalty kick in a shootout that helped his team reach the final. Tunisia won the final 2–1 against Morocco. In 2004, he also played for Tunisia at the Summer Olympics, appearing in all three group matches.
He also played in the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he scored a goal in the quarter-final match against Nigeria. However, Tunisia lost that game in a penalty shootout.
FIFA World Cup Experience
In the same year, 2006, Karim Haggui made his FIFA World Cup debut at the finals in Germany. He played in all three of Tunisia's group matches. During the qualifying games for the 2006 World Cup, he played seven matches and scored two goals in a 4–1 win against Botswana.
In 2008, he played in all four of Tunisia's matches at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana. Tunisia was knocked out in the quarter-finals after losing to Cameroon.
