Karin Housley (born January 20, 1964) is an American politician. Since 2013, she has served as a member of the Minnesota Senate. She represents the 33rd Senate District in Minnesota. As a Republican, she represents areas like Forest Lake and Stillwater. In 2018, she ran for the United States Senate but did not win.

Early Life and Education
Karin Housley was born and grew up in South St. Paul, Minnesota. She finished high school in 1982. She then went to Augsburg College for a short time. Later, she moved to Buffalo, New York. This was because her high school boyfriend, Phil Housley, was chosen to play for the Buffalo Sabres hockey team.
She studied at the State University of New York at Buffalo. In 1987, she earned a degree in communication studies. After college, Housley worked as a news producer. She helped create news programs for TV stations in Buffalo until 1991.
Serving in the Minnesota Senate
Karin Housley has been a state senator in Minnesota since 2013. She represents communities in the St. Croix Valley. A state senator helps make laws for their state.
As a senator, she is known for her work on issues for older adults. She also works on topics important to veterans. Housley helped create the first committee in the Minnesota Senate focused on aging. She was the leader of this committee.
In 2019, she helped pass an important law. This law made sure older and vulnerable adults in care facilities were better protected. Her colleagues also chose her to be an assistant majority leader. This means she helps lead the main political group in the Senate.
Political Campaigns
Karin Housley first ran for public office in 2010. She ran for the Minnesota Senate but lost by a small number of votes. In 2012, she ran again after her home district changed. She won this election by just 1% of the votes. She was reelected in 2016, 2020, and 2022.
In 2014, she was chosen to run for lieutenant governor of Minnesota. This is like a vice-governor for the state. She ran with Scott Honour, who was running for governor. They did not win their party's primary election.
In 2017, Housley announced she would run for the United States Senate. This was a special election to fill a vacant seat. She won the Republican primary election. However, she lost the main election to Tina Smith.
In 2019, Housley started a political action committee. This group helps conservative candidates running for office in Minnesota. Many people thought she might run for the U.S. Senate again in 2020. But she decided to run for reelection to the Minnesota Senate instead.
Personal Life
Karin Housley is married to Phil Housley, a former professional hockey player. They have four children. All their children graduated from Stillwater Area High School. They also have four grandchildren.
The Housleys lived in many different cities while Phil played in the National Hockey League. These cities included Buffalo, Winnipeg, and Chicago. In 2003, they moved back to Minnesota. They now live in Stillwater. Karin Housley also owns a real estate business there. She is a Lutheran.
