Karin Housley (born January 20, 1964) is an American politician. She has been a member of the Minnesota Senate since 2013. She represents District 33, which includes areas like Forest Lake and Stillwater. Karin Housley is a member of the Republican Party. In 2018, she ran for a U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota but did not win.

Early Life and Education
Karin Housley grew up in South St. Paul, Minnesota. She finished high school in 1982. She then went to Augsburg University for a short time. Later, she moved to Buffalo, New York. This move happened because her high school boyfriend, Phil Housley, was chosen to play for the Buffalo Sabres hockey team.
College and Early Career
Karin Housley attended the State University of New York at Buffalo. She earned a degree in communication studies in 1987. After college, she worked as a news producer for TV stations in Buffalo until 1991.
Serving in the Minnesota Senate
Karin Housley has served in the Minnesota Senate since 2013. She represents communities in the St. Croix Valley, including Forest Lake and Stillwater. As a state senator, she works on important issues.
Helping Seniors and Veterans
Senator Housley is well-known for her efforts to help older adults and veterans. She played a key role in creating the first-ever Minnesota Senate committee focused on aging. She also led this committee. In 2019, she helped pass an important law. This law provides better protections for elderly and vulnerable adults living in senior care homes and assisted living facilities in Minnesota.

Karin Housley first ran for public office in 2010 for the Minnesota Senate. She lost that election by a small number of votes. However, after new district maps were drawn, she ran again in 2012 and won her election. She was reelected to the Senate in 2016, 2020, and 2022.
Running for Higher Office
In 2014, Karin Housley was chosen to be a candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota. She ran with Scott Honour, who was a candidate for governor. They did not win their party's primary election.
In 2017, Housley announced she would run for the United States Senate. This was a special election for a seat that became open. She won her party's primary election. However, she lost the main election to Tina Smith.
In 2019, there was some talk that she might run for the U.S. Senate again in 2020. Instead, she decided to run for reelection to the Minnesota Senate, which she won.
Personal Life
Karin Housley is married to Phil Housley, a former professional hockey player. Because of Phil's hockey career, they lived in many different cities across the U.S. and Canada. These cities included Buffalo, Winnipeg, St. Louis, Calgary, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Toronto, and Phoenix.
The Housleys moved back to Minnesota in 2003. They have four children, all of whom graduated from Stillwater Area High School. They also have four grandchildren. Karin and Phil live in Stillwater. Karin Housley also owns a real estate business there. She is a member of the Lutheran church.
