Karl Scott's Coaching Journey
Starting His Coaching Career
Karl Scott began his coaching journey in 2007 at Delta State. He started as a graduate assistant, which means he helped the coaches while also studying.
After that, he spent four years at Tusculum College. There, he helped find new players as the recruiting coordinator. He also coached the defensive backs and linebackers, who are important players on the defense.
Next, he coached at Southeastern Louisiana for three years. For the first two years, he coached the linebackers. In 2014, he became the defensive coordinator, which means he was in charge of the entire defense. In 2015, Scott coached the safeties for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Safeties are defensive players who help stop long passes and runs. For the next two years, he coached the entire secondary (all the defensive back players) for the Red Raider team.
Coaching at Alabama
Scott then coached for three years at the University of Alabama. He worked under famous coach Nick Saban. He also worked with defensive coordinator Pete Golding, whom he had coached with before.
At first, he coached both positions in the defensive backfield. But for his last two years at Alabama, he focused only on coaching the cornerbacks. Cornerbacks are players who cover wide receivers. In 2020, he was part of the Alabama team that won the national championship without losing any games.
Time with the Minnesota Vikings
For the 2021 football season, Karl Scott joined the Minnesota Vikings. He became their defensive backs coach, helping the team's defensive players.
Coaching the Seattle Seahawks
On February 8, 2022, the Seattle Seahawks hired Karl Scott. He became their main Secondary Coach and Passing Game Coordinator. This means he is in charge of the defensive back players and helps plan how the team will defend against passes. He kept his job when Mike Macdonald became the new head coach after Pete Carroll stepped down.
