Karyn Layvonne White (born October 14, 1965) is an American singer and songwriter. She became very popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Karyn White is famous for her hit songs like "Superwoman" (1988) and "Secret Rendezvous" (1989). Her song "Romantic" (1991) even reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Early Life and Music Beginnings
Karyn White was born in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are Vivian and Clarence White. She is the youngest of five children in her family.
From a young age, Karyn loved to sing. She started by singing in her church choir. Later, she worked as a backing singer for other artists. Before becoming a solo star, she sang on some songs for Jeff Lorber in 1986. Soon after, she signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records.
Karyn White's Music Career
First Album Success
Karyn White released her first album, called Karyn White, in 1988. Famous producers L.A. Reid and Babyface helped create the album. It was a huge success and sold over a million copies in the U.S., earning "platinum status."
This album featured many popular songs. These included "The Way You Love Me", "Secret Rendezvous", and "Superwoman". Her duet with Babyface, "Love Saw It", became a number one R&B hit. Karyn White was the first female artist to have her first three songs from a debut album reach number one on the R&B charts. She also received nominations for two Grammy Awards.
Ritual of Love and "Romantic"
In 1991, Karyn White released her next album, Ritual of Love. This album included songs produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. The album's biggest hit was "Romantic," which soared to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Other songs from Ritual of Love included "The Way I Feel About You". The music video for "Romantic" was directed by Matthew Rolston. The album's look, including the famous pearl and black dress on the cover, was created by stylist Michael Walls.
Later Music and Return
Karyn White's album Make Him Do Right came out in 1994. While it didn't sell as much as her previous albums, it still had some hits. "Can I Stay With You," written by Babyface, became a Top 10 R&B hit in 1995. Her song "I'd Rather Be Alone" was her last chart single for a while. In 1995, she also sang on the song "Freedom (Theme from Panther)" for a movie soundtrack.
After 1999, Karyn White took a break from music to focus on her family. She recorded a new album called Sista Sista in 2006, but it was not officially released. Some of those songs later appeared on a "best of" album.
After a seventeen-year break, Karyn White released her album Carpe Diem in March 2012. This album featured new songs like "Sista, Sista" and "Unbreakable."
Recent Projects
In 2017, Karyn White started acting in the TV series Beauty and the Baller. She also returned with new music and her first movie role in Gale and the Storm. The soundtrack for the film, which included her song "Blind Man Walking," was released in September 2017. The movie premiered in October 2017. She received an award nomination for the Gale and the Storm soundtrack.
Personal Life
Karyn White married music producer Terry Lewis in 1992. They had a daughter named Ashley Nicole and adopted a son named Brandon. They divorced in 1999. Later, Karyn White was married to Bobby G from 2007 to 2009. In 2012, she began a relationship with musician Al B. Sure!.
Karyn White used to live in Rocklin, California. She also had a successful business in interior design and real estate.
