The Kashunamiut School District is a school district located in the village of Chevak. This district has one school that teaches students from Kindergarten all the way up to High School. The school's mascot is a "comet".

In the 2008–09 school year, about 200 students attended the school. The graduation rate was 58% that year. Students at the school learn in both English and the local Cup'ik language. This helps students connect with their heritage while also learning English.

The main leader of the Kashunamiut School District is the superintendent. This person helps manage the schools and makes sure everything runs smoothly.

Jeanne Campbell is the district superintendent. She has lived in Chevak for a long time and has worked as an educator there for many years. Ms. Campbell strongly believes that Cup'ik culture should be a big part of daily life and learning at Chevak school.

How Students Are Doing in School

In the 2008–09 school year, the district was working to meet certain goals set by the Alaska Department of Education. These goals are called "Annual Yearly Progress" (AYP).

The district was placed on AYP Level 4. This meant they needed to create a plan to help students improve. It also meant they had to offer other school choices if available.

Tests were given to students in grades 3 through 10 during that year. About 41% of students showed they were good at language arts. Also, 47% of students showed they were good at mathematics.
