What is Kat Kong About?
This book takes the exciting adventure of King Kong and turns it into a hilarious tale about a huge cat. Imagine a giant cat causing a stir in the city! Dav Pilkey, who also created Captain Underpants, published Kat Kong in 1993. It's a great example of how authors can take old stories and make them new and funny.
How the Pictures Were Made
The artwork in Kat Kong is really special. Dav Pilkey used a technique called "manipulated photographic collage." This means he took real photographs and then cut them up and glued them together. After that, he added lots of acrylic paint to make them look even cooler.
Guess what? The animals you see in the book are actually pictures of Dav Pilkey's own pets! This makes the book even more personal and fun. Pilkey dedicated the book to Nate Howard, who he joked had "tamed" the wild cat.
A Silly Rating
Just for fun, Kat Kong has a special rating. Instead of a movie rating like G or PG, it's rated "TS." This stands for "Terribly Silly"! It's a little joke from the author to let you know the book is meant to make you laugh.
Meet the Sequel: Dogzilla
If you enjoy Kat Kong, you'll be happy to know there's a sequel! It's called Dogzilla. Just like Kat Kong makes fun of King Kong, Dogzilla spoofs another famous monster movie: Godzilla. So, if you like giant animals and funny stories, be sure to check out both books!
