Kasia's Early Cycling Days
Katarzyna Niewiadoma was born in Limanowa, Poland. She started riding bikes with a local club called WLKS Krakus BBC Czaja. Soon, she became one of the most promising young women cyclists in Poland.
In 2013, when she was still young, she won two national titles for riders under 23 years old. These great results led her to join a professional team later that year. She even raced in the Holland Ladies Tour and won the award for the best young rider.
Becoming a Professional Cyclist
Starting with Rabo–Liv (2014–2017)
Kasia joined the professional team Rabo–Liv in 2014. Just a few months later, she won her first race, the GP du Canton d'Argovie in Switzerland. She also showed her climbing talent in the Giro d'Italia Femminile, helping her team win. She finished 11th overall in this big race, which was great for her first year as a pro.
In 2015, Kasia continued to shine. She finished well in tough races like Strade Bianche and La Flèche Wallonne. She won the Emakumeen Euskal Bira, a five-day stage race in Spain. She also won a silver medal at the European Games. At the Giro Rosa, she won the white jersey for the best young rider. Later, she won a gold medal at the European Under-23 Road Race Championships.
In 2016, Kasia had an amazing year. She finished second at Strade Bianche. She won two stage races: the Grand Prix Elsy Jacobs and the Giro del Trentino Alto Adige-Südtirol. She also became the Polish National Champion in both the time trial and road race. At the Rio Olympics, she finished sixth in the road race. She also won a silver medal at the European Road Championships.
Kasia had a strong spring in 2017, finishing on the podium four times in major races. She was second at Strade Bianche and third in all three Ardennes classics races: Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne, and Liège–Bastogne–Liège. She then won the Women's Tour in the UK, winning the first stage with a long solo ride.
Joining Canyon–SRAM (2018–Present)
In 2018, Kasia joined the Canyon–SRAM team. She continued her success, finishing second at Strade Bianche for the third year in a row. She then won the Trofeo Alfredo Binda, a big one-day race, with a solo attack. She also won the Tour Cycliste Féminin International de l'Ardèche, a stage race.
In 2019, Kasia won the Amstel Gold Race after a thrilling finish. She attacked on the final climb and held off her rivals. She also finished second overall at The Women's Tour, winning a stage and the mountains classification. At the Giro Rosa, she wore the pink leader's jersey for a few days, which was a first for her.
The 2020 season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but Kasia still achieved great results. She won a bronze medal at the European Road Championships. She also finished second overall in the Giro Rosa, one of the most important stage races for women.
In 2021, Kasia had several second-place finishes, showing her consistent performance. She was second at La Flèche Wallonne and Dwars door Vlaanderen. Her hard work paid off when she won a bronze medal at the UCI Road World Championships in Belgium, her first individual medal at the World Championships.
In 2022, Kasia continued to be a top rider. She finished second at the Brabantse Pijl and third overall at The Women's Tour. A big highlight was finishing third overall in the first edition of the Tour de France Femmes. This showed she was one of the best climbers in the world.
In 2023, Kasia again finished third overall in the Tour de France Femmes. She also won the polka-dot jersey for being the best climber (Queen of the Mountains). Later that year, she won the 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships, becoming the world champion in gravel cycling. This was a huge win for her.
The year 2024 brought even more success. Kasia won La Flèche Wallonne again. On August 18, she achieved the biggest win of her career: she won the Tour de France Femmes by just 4 seconds! This was the closest finish in the race's history and a dream come true for her.
