Kate Scott (born Kate Giles on September 8, 1981) is a well-known British sports broadcaster. She is famous for her work covering association football, also known as soccer. Kate mainly works for CBS Sports in the United States. Since August 2020, she has been the main host for CBS's coverage of the UEFA Champions League. Throughout her career, she has worked in many countries, including the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, and the United States.
Early Life and Education
Kate Scott was born in Manchester, England. She went to Christ the King School and Withington Girls' School there. When she was 17, she moved to Spain. She learned Spanish and finished her high school studies in Spain.
Kate then earned a degree in European languages from the University of Salford. She also studied translation and interpreting at the University of Málaga. During her studies, she spent time living in France and Germany to learn more languages. Her maternal grandmother was from Guyana, which means Kate has Guyanese family roots.
Sports Broadcasting Career
Kate Scott's journey in broadcasting began in 2005. She started with an internship at Deutsche Welle, a German international news network. From 2006 to 2009, she worked as a production assistant for a show called Goal! The Bundesliga Magazine. At the same time, she was a sports news presenter for Deutsche Welle. She hosted sports news in both English and German.
After Deutsche Welle, Kate joined CNN. There, she hosted the daily World Sports program. She also presented a special feature show at CNN. Later, Kate moved to Germany to work for Sky Sport News HD. She became the main host and a key face for the new network. She helped develop the network's shows and how they covered sports.
From Germany, Kate moved to the UK to join Sky Sports. She hosted many big events, including Pay Per View Boxing and European Football. She also covered Transfer Deadline Day and worked for Sky Sports News. In 2015, Sky Sports allowed Kate to work for Fox Sports in the US. She hosted their coverage of the Women's World Cup. Later, she took a permanent job with Fox Sports. She moved to the US and hosted their coverage of the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, FA Cup, and Bundesliga. She also hosted the UEFA Europa League group stage draw in Monaco three times.
At Fox, Kate also hosted Premier Boxing Champions. This included a regular studio show called "Inside PBC Boxing" and live fight night coverage. When Fox lost the rights to show the Champions League, Kate signed a deal with Turner. She then hosted Champions League coverage on TNT.
Kate is also well-known for hosting the FIFA Ballon d'Or and Laureus World Sports Awards. She hosted these important awards many times. At the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or ceremony, she spoke with guests and contestants in four different languages. She also hosted the 2015 FIFA Ballon d'Or.
After Fox Sports lost major football rights, Kate left the network. In 2022, she briefly returned to Fox. She hosted their nightly show for the 2022 FIFA World Cup from Qatar.
In August 2020, CBS Sports took over the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League in the United States. Kate Scott was the first person CBS hired to present their show, UEFA Champions League Today. She hosts the show with famous football players like Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards. The show has received a lot of praise. In June 2023, CBS Sports announced that Kate had signed a new four-year contract with them.
Personal Life
Kate Scott's father, Tom Giles, is a big fan of Manchester United. In 2023, he was a special guest and was interviewed by Peter Schmeichel at Etihad Stadium. Kate herself is also a Manchester United fan.
Kate was married to Ramtin Abdolmajid from 2010 to 2016. In December 2023, it was shared that she was in a relationship with American former boxer Malik Scott. They had been seen training together in September 2023. In March 2024, they shared their relationship publicly on Instagram. Kate and Malik Scott were married in September 2024.
