Kate Scott (born 8 September 1981) is a British sports broadcaster. She is well-known for her work in association football (soccer). She currently works for CBS Sports and has been the main host for their coverage of the UEFA Champions League since 2020. Kate has worked in many countries, including the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany, and the United States.
Early Life and Education
Kate Scott was born in Manchester, England. She went to Christ the King School and Withington Girls' School. When she was 17, she moved to Spain and learned Spanish. She also got her high school diploma there.
Later, Kate studied European languages at the University of Salford. She also learned about translation and interpreting at the University of Málaga in Spain. During her studies, she spent time living in France and Germany to learn more languages. Her maternal grandmother was from Guyana, which means Kate has Guyanese family roots.
Career in Broadcasting
Kate Scott started her career in broadcasting in 2005. She had an internship at Deutsche Welle, a German international news network. From 2006 to 2009, she worked there as a production assistant and a sports news presenter. She hosted sports shows in both English and German.
After Deutsche Welle, Kate joined CNN. There, she hosted the daily World Sports program. She also presented a special feature show. Later, she moved back to Germany to work for Sky Sport News HD. She was a main anchor and helped launch the network.
From Germany, Kate moved to the UK to join Sky Sports. At Sky Sports, she hosted big boxing events, European football matches, and special "Transfer Deadline Day" shows. In 2015, Sky Sports sent her to Fox Sports in the US to host their coverage of the Women's World Cup. She then decided to stay with Fox Sports permanently. There, she hosted shows about the Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, FA Cup, and Bundesliga. She also hosted the UEFA Europa League group stage draw three times.
At Fox, Kate also hosted Premier Boxing Champions events. This included a studio show called "Inside PBC Boxing" and live fight night coverage. When Fox lost the rights to show the Champions League, Kate also signed a deal with TNT to host their Champions League coverage.
Kate is also famous for hosting the FIFA Ballon d'Or and Laureus World Sports Awards. She hosted these big events many times. At the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or ceremony, she spoke with guests in four different languages! She also hosted the 2015 FIFA Ballon d'Or.
After Fox Sports stopped showing major football events and cancelled her boxing show, Kate left the network. However, she briefly returned to Fox in 2022 to host their nightly show for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
In August 2020, CBS Sports took over the rights to broadcast the UEFA Champions League in the United States. Kate Scott was the first person they hired to host their show, UEFA Champions League Today. This show, which Kate hosts with football legends like Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards, has become very popular. In June 2023, CBS Sports announced that Kate had signed a new four-year contract with them.
Personal Life
Kate Scott is a big fan of Manchester United, just like her father, Tom Giles. Her father was even interviewed live at the Etihad Stadium in 2023 by former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.
Kate was married to Ramtin Abdo from 2010 to 2016. In December 2023, it was shared that she was in a relationship with American former boxer Malik Scott. They had been seen training together earlier that year. In March 2024, they shared their relationship publicly on Instagram. Kate and Malik Scott got married in September 2024.
