Kate Woods' Career

Starting Out in Directing

Kate Woods started her journey in directing in 1984. She made history by becoming the first female director for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation! She began as an assistant director for a show called Kindred Spirits.

Later, she directed episodes for popular Australian TV shows like G.P., Heartland, and Something in the Air. During these early years, she even got to work with famous director Jane Campion. Plus, she helped give future stars like Cate Blanchett and Hugh Jackman some of their very first acting jobs on screen!

Directing Feature Films

In 2000, Kate Woods directed her first full-length movie, Looking for Alibrandi. This film was a big success! It won 5 AACTA Awards from the Australian Film Institute, including the award for Best Film.

Moving to America

In 2005, Kate Woods moved to America to continue her directing career. There, she directed many episodes for well-known TV shows. Some of these include Person of Interest, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and The Umbrella Academy.

In 2020, she directed four episodes of the Netflix miniseries Messiah.
