Early Life and Education
Katharina Focke was born in Bonn, Germany. She loved learning and studied many different subjects. She went to the University of Zürich to study economics. Later, she studied English, German, and History at the University of Hamburg. She also traveled to the United States to study political science at the University of Oklahoma. In 1954, she earned a special degree called a Ph.D.
Starting a Political Career
Katharina Focke joined the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in 1964. This party is one of the main political groups in Germany. Just two years later, in 1966, she was elected to the parliament in Düsseldorf. This was an important step in her political journey.
In 1969, she was elected to the Bundestag. The Bundestag is like the main parliament or congress of Germany. It's where laws are made for the whole country.
Working with the Chancellor
After joining the Bundestag, Katharina Focke was chosen by Chancellor Willy Brandt. A Chancellor is like the prime minister or head of government in Germany.
