The Katy Building is a historic, eight-story building in Downtown Dallas, Texas. You can find it in the West End Historic District at 701 Commerce Street. This building was built between 1912 and 1914 for a Dallas businessman named Col. John M. Simpson.

For more than 50 years, the Katy Building was the main office for the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. This railroad company was often called "MKT," which sounds like "Katy." That's how the building got its special name! The building has 57,500 square feet of space.

The architect H.A. Overbeck designed this seven-story building. It was built in a style called Beaux-Arts/Historism. The building used special fireproof materials. It had many office spaces and even its own power plant in the basement.

Even though the MKT railroad used most of the building, other businesses could rent space there too. Over the years, the inside of the building has been updated many times. However, its original historic look has been carefully kept.

What is the Katy Building Used For Today?

In 2014, a company called Novel Coworking bought the Katy Building. They updated the inside to create modern workspaces. Now, the building offers private offices and shared work areas.

These spaces are perfect for new businesses and small companies. They can rent offices for short periods. This gives them a flexible place to work and grow.
