Kaworu later tries to reach a secret area called Terminal Dogma. He believes he will find Adam there, but he discovers it is actually Lilith. After this discovery, he allows Shinji Ikari, another main character, to destroy him. Kaworu also appears in the movie The End of Evangelion. Kaworu's Popularity
Even though Kaworu only appears in a few episodes near the end of the original series, he became very popular. Many fans recognized him quickly. In 2010, a magazine called Newtype held a poll. Kaworu was voted the second most popular male anime character from the 1990s.
Kaworu in the Manga Series
The character of Kaworu Nagisa is shown differently in the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga (comic books). In the original TV series, Kaworu was kind, spoke well, and seemed very caring. However, in the manga, he acts more awkwardly and sometimes seems to invade others' personal space.
Early ideas for Kaworu's design were also different. He was first imagined as a school boy who had a pet cat. This boy could also change into an "Angel form." One artwork by the manga's creator, Sadamoto, shows Kaworu dressed in black and holding a black cat.
Kaworu in the Rebuild Movies
Kaworu has a slightly bigger part in the newer movies, known as the Neon Genesis Evangelion New Theatrical Version or Rebuild of Evangelion. In the third movie, 3.0: You can (not) redo, his role becomes much more important to the story.
