River's Journey
The Kekek River starts from an unnamed lake. This lake is surrounded by mountains. The highest mountain top nearby is 556 metres (1,824 ft) tall.
The river's source lake is located:
- East of the area where the Chochocouane River begins.
- North-west of where the Gordon River (Chochocouane River) starts.
- West of the Esperey River area.
The Kekek River flows for about 69.4 kilometres (43.1 mi). It generally flows north and northeast. Along its path, it passes through several small lakes. It also crosses the Canadian National Railway line.
The main rivers and lakes near the Kekek River are:
- To the North: Mégiscane River.
- To the East: Hudson Creek and Suzie River.
- To the South: Esperey River and Festubert River.
- To the West: Trévet River and Chochocouane River.
The Kekek River eventually joins the Mégiscane River. The Mégiscane River then flows west. It empties into Parent Lake (Abitibi). Parent Lake then flows into the Bell River. The Bell River is a tributary of Lake Matagami. Finally, Lake Matagami empties into the Nottaway River, which flows into James Bay.
